Explore Central Gardens in Merrylands

Tucked away in suburban Merrylands, Central Gardens is one of Western Sydney’s best kept secrets — 12 hectares of parklands, bushland trails and wildlife right in the middle of the suburbs.

A proper walk through nature

The park is criss-crossed with walking trails that take you through wide open green spaces, bushland and along the river — allow around 90 minutes to explore the whole loop. Along the way you’ll pass a duck pond, stepping stones across the river and a waterfall that runs daily from 11am. It’s peaceful, shaded and a genuinely lovely spot for a morning walk or a slow wander to clear your head.

Wildlife you wouldn’t expect to find in Merrylands

One of the best parts of Central Gardens is the wildlife. There are native animal exhibits and sanctuaries throughout the park, including kangaroos, wallabies, emus and a range of native birds. There’s also a koala sanctuary and a nocturnal house where you can see possums, fruit bats and other nocturnal animals. It’s free to wander through and a great way to spend an hour.

A great spot to relax outdoors

With wide open green spaces, free electric BBQs and shaded picnic areas, Central Gardens is also a great spot to bring a coffee, sit by the water and enjoy some time outdoors.
