Explore Lake Parramatta
Looking for a peaceful, free spot to escape the hustle of Western Sydney? Lake Parramatta is one of the area’s best kept secrets — a tranquil lake surrounded by bushland, just minutes from Parramatta CBD.
A scenic escape close to home
Lake Parramatta is nestled in lush, quiet parkland and feels like a world away from everyday life. Surrounded by native flora and fauna, it’s a wonderful spot for a morning walk or simply sitting by the water and taking it all in.
Walking and biking tracks
A mix of paved and bushland trails wind around the lake, offering beautiful water views and plenty of greenery along the way. Whether you want a brisk walk, a bike ride or a slow wander, there’s a track to suit your pace.
Picnic spots and BBQ areas
Free BBQs and picnic spots are dotted around the lake — perfect for a relaxed weekend lunch or catching up with friends in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Hire a boat and get out on the water
Parramatta Rowboats offers kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, stand-up paddleboards and rowboats for hire. Whatever your skill level, it’s a great way to spend a few hours exploring the lake from the water.
A place of cultural significance
Lake Parramatta Reserve holds deep cultural significance for the Darug people, the traditional owners of the land. Evidence of the Burramattagal clan’s long history in the area can still be found throughout the reserve. In partnership with the City of Parramatta Council, a Bushfoods Garden and Walk has been created, offering visitors the chance to learn more about these histories — with guided tours available through the Parramatta Heritage and Visitor Information Centre.
Free and easy to get to
Best of all, it’s completely free to visit, with parking available on site and good access by car, bus or on foot for those nearby. The park is also wheelchair accessible.
