VELA Spa & Bathhouse
A new day spa and bathhouse has landed in the Hawkesbury Valley, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the best wellness day trips in Western Sydney. We got to visit VELA ahead of its official opening for an exclusive look, so we’re sharing what to expect before you book your own visit.
This one’s been a long time coming for Sydneysiders. The site was previously Villa Thalgo Day Spa, a long-running favourite that was hit by major flooding in both 2020 and 2023. Rather than simply rebuild what was lost, the team behind it used the setback to reimagine the whole space, and VELA is the result.
They treated us to a morning of pampering, starting with a one-hour massage and facial with Alyssa, and it was exactly the reset we needed. Nothing beats catching up with friends while you unwind, and it made the whole experience even better. We followed it up with high tea, complete with delicious sandwiches, and left feeling like we were floating on a cloud. Me time is so important, and days like this are the perfect reminder to prioritise it.
If you want to make more of a full break out of it, VELA also sits within Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley, so an overnight stay is an easy way to turn a spa visit into a proper weekend getaway.
VELA is built around six main experiences:
Bathhouse: A full contrast therapy circuit including magnesium-enriched mineral pools, a Nordic sauna, steam room, fire and ice room (infrared sauna plus cold plunge), and an outdoor barrel sauna.
Spa treatments: Facials, massages, and body treatments, available 9am–6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–5pm Sundays.
Float therapy: Float rooms with in-built pools and star-lit ceilings, designed to fully switch off the senses. (float rooms are still being finalised and aren’t yet available at opening)
Dining: A champagne bar and all-day dining menu, plus high tea, for anyone wanting to extend the visit into a proper afternoon out.
Retail: An in-spa skincare and wellness retail space, with staff on hand to help you pick products suited to what you’ve just experienced in the treatments.
Relaxation spaces: Indoor and outdoor lounges designed for the in-between moments, before or after your bathhouse or treatment session.
VELA officially opens 22 September. Bookings are live now via their website, and Foundation Memberships are available ahead of opening.
Memberships: Foundation Memberships start from $45 per week and include:
- Daily bathhouse access
- Use of the relaxation lounge and champagne bar
- A bathrobe, towel
- Slippers and locker
- Member discounts on spa
- Retail and dining
- A complimentary non-alcoholic beverage per visit
